Pink mold dangers are unknown to most of the people. In fact, what are pink molds, its common growth places, pink mold dangers and pink mold treatments are not well-known to most of the people. Bacteria named Serratia Marcescens cause pink mold.

The bacteria, Serratia Marcescens, thrive on moisture and wet areas. This is why they are mainly seen in areas like shower panels, toilet seats and basins. Other areas of common occurrence of pink molds are tile grouts, shower holes, and tiles near the drainage, tap holes and nozzles. Uncommon sites of occurrence include nozzles of soap dispensers, soap cases and drainage nets.

Bacteria of pink mold are transferred from humans to the above mentioned areas by urine and body fluids and live on moisture and fats around the areas. These pink mold bacteria can infect humans and cause various diseases.

Pink Mold Danger: Diseases caused by Serratia Marcescens

Pink mold danger is that it causes some serious human infections. These infections affect various human organs including kidney and urinary tract, eyes, heart, bones, lungs and brain.

Pink Mold Danger to the kidneys: It causes UTI from where it actually propagates to different sites of the bathroom and spreads. The infection can affect urethra, kidneys and bladder.

Pink mold danger to eyes: Serratia Marcescens is known to cause ocular infections such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, and rarely fulminating endophthalmitis. It also affects the tear ducts causing its inflammation and blockage.

Pink mold danger to other organs: Pink mold danger to other organs includes endocarditis in heart, osteomyelitis in bones, pneumonia in lungs, and meningitis in brain. These diseases are usually transferred via use of infected intravenous lines in hospitals. Infections can also be spread by use of catheters, cannulas and prosthetic valves.

Pink mold danger is not limited to the diseases it causes. Pink mold danger also lies in the possible treatments available for it. Treatment of pink mold infections is extensive and unpredictable. Commonly available antibiotics for humans have little effect on pink mold bacteria. These bacteria are resistant to most of the antibiotics because of their anti-biotic resistance genes. This is why, understanding and knowing pink mold is important and essential to treat. So, it is advisable to get rid of pink mold as early as possible.
